George Lawler pens new deal with Hull KR

George Lawler has signed a new three-year contract extension with Hull KR, keeping him at the club until the end of 2021.

Lawler has scored eight tries in 44 games for the Robins since making his debut in 2015 and is now a regular in the first team in either the back-row or at hooker.

He is currently sidelined with a fractured and dislocated ankle, but has become the latest Rovers player to put pen to paper on a new deal.

On his contract extension, Lawler said: “I want to be at Rovers for as long as I can and I’m relieved to get my long-term future sorted.

“They’re the club that gave me my debut and they’ve been great with me throughout my leg injury. I was really keen to show my loyalty.

“We’d been speaking before I was ruled out for the season and they still said 100 per cent they wanted me to stay long-term so that was really pleasing.

“I really don’t tend to get involved with contracts, I let my agent sort things out but all I know is that I was happy to stay here for the next three years at least.

“Over the next few years I want to be regularly pushing for a place in the team and I really want a 1-17 shirt number. That’s a long way off but the hard work starts now.

“My complex leg injury now is completely different to my previous cracked pelvis, both mentally and physically. I’m hoping to get my pot off in the next week or two and then start my rehab. I’m not rushing into anything though and with this new deal I can fully focus on getting myself right.”
