Kyle Eastmond released by Wasps, fuelling speculation of rugby league return

Wasps have announced that Kyle Eastmond will be amongst four players that will depart the Coventry-based team, linking him with a return to rugby league.

Eastmond, 28, switched codes to rugby union after spending four years with St Helens, in which he made four appearances for England. Eastmond joined Bath in 2011 on a three-year deal.

Making his professional debut at a young age, Eastmond impressed Saints fans early, including a late try and goal against Wigan on Good Friday in 2008. He was later compared to the likes of Jason Robinson and NRL’s Scott Prince for his speed, agility and ability to spot a gap.

Eastmond was a talented young rugby league player, and the confirmed release by Wasps Director of rugby Dai Young has started speculation that the utility back could return to rugby league.

Wasps play in the Aviva Premiership, where the union centre appeared 23 times scoring four tries.
