Whitehaven launch appeal to save the club

Whitehaven have launched an appeal to save the club as it faces a shortfall of £60,000 this season.

The League One club, who reached the last 16 of the Challenge Cup where they were beaten away at Catalans, are at risk of going out of business if the funds cannot be found.

They are asking for 240 people or businesses to come forward and donate £250 in return for a season ticket for the rest of this season and next season, plus a seat in the sponsors lounge for a game of their choice.

Chairman Tommy Todd said: “The club finds itself in a position where we are some £60k short on our budget for the remainder of the season.

“This is due to the loss of our main sponsor and lack of other significant sponsors over the last two years.

“Coupled to this have been rising costs, falling attendances and more than a 50 per cent drop in central distribution from the RFL. Clearly this cannot continue.”

Whitehaven have reduced admission prices for their game against Bradford to £10 for adults/concessions and £5 for children.

The club is also working on setting up a Just Giving page to receive donations.
