Danny Kirmond agrees contract extension with Wakefield

Wakefield captain Danny Kirmond has signed a contract extension that will see him remain at Trinity until the end of 2019.

The 32-year-old is currently the longest serving payer at the club after joining permanently in 2012 from Huddersfield Giants after spending time on loan in 2010.

Kirmond has been captain for over six years now and has gone on to make 150 appearances for Trinity, scoring 44 tries.

The back-rower is delighted to extend his stay at the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

Kirmond said: “I am really happy to get the deal over the line, it didn’t take much sorting out.

“Michael Carter is a very honest guy and I have been here for a long time so it was more of a case of whatever was on the table, I would be more than happy.

“It was great to get it all sorted out pretty quick, I am not ready to retire yet and I made it clear that I would like to stay here at Wakefield longer.”

Trinity coach Chris Chester is glad to have his captain stay at the club.

He said: “It is fantastic news that Danny Kirmond has signed a new deal here at the club.

“He is a great leader and role model to everyone both on and off the field.

“He made it clear early on that he wanted to remain here at the club and for us, it was an easy decision to make.”
