Huddersfield pull out of Jackson Hastings race

Huddersfield have pulled out of the chase to sign former Manly half-back Jackson Hastings.

Hastings, 22, was released by the Sea Eagles earlier this month after a falling out with team mate Daly Cherry-Evans and coach Trent Barrett.

He has played 47 games in the NRL for Manly and Sydney Roosters, and Giants coach Simon Woolford had been hoping to bring him to Super League.

Woolford told the club’s official website: “It’s naturally a disappointment that we won’t be seeing Jackson in a Giants shirt in the forseeable future but as one door closes it gives an opportunity for someone else to step in and we are very close now to making a major move with a lad that’s keen to come over and make a difference for us.

“We’ve been holding out for a YES from Jacksons’ Manager for around a month now and couldn’t let it drift on any longer in reality so we set a deadline of Wednesday after which we said we’d move on which we have.

“I think he’s a great player and he knows I wish him the best going forwards wherever that may be.”
