Whitehaven sign five including two club legends
Whitehaven have bolstered their squad for their League One promotion push with the signing of five players.
Club legends Craig Calvert and Carl Sice have both come out of retirement to bolster their hometown club.
Winger Calvert retired after the play-off final defeat to Barrow at the end of last season and is the club’s record try scorer.
Hooker Sice hasn’t played for the club since 2013, but was a key part of the successful era under Steve McCormack in 2004 and 2005.
Another returnee to the club is half back Ste Roper, who has joined on loan from North Wales Crusaders for the rest of the season.
He made 25 appearances for Whitehaven last season.
Local amateurs Jordan Thompson and Jordan Herve have stepped up to the professional ranks for the first time from Hensingham and Kells respectively.
Thompson is a utility forward while Herve is a winger who has already played at the Recreation Ground this season for Kells in their Challenge Cup tie with Toronto Wolfpack.
