Tony Gigot: Catalans fans love Wembley

Catalans star Tony Gigot is very proud of the fact that the club have reached the Challenge Cup Final again.

The France international would have been just 16 years of age the last time the Dragons were at Wembley back in 2007, losing to St Helens 30-8.

But after inspiring Catalans to a win over St Helens in the semi-finals, Gigot wants the club to go one better this time and lift the trophy on August 25.

He told loverugbyleague.com: “We have been waiting a long, long time to get to Wembley, so we are very proud of that and we know the Catalans fans love Wembley.

“We are very happy to give them the opportunity to go to Wembley. It was hard work for us, but we have worked very hard over the last few weeks, and for the fans the club it was unbelievable.

“I was very happy with my performance but I’m happier for the team.”

The 27-year-old put in a man of the match performance for the Dragons in their 35-16 win over St Helens in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.

And Gigot thought the Dragons outplayed the Saints.

He said: “We knew if we had good discipline that we could put them in a bad situation and it worked for us.

“St Helens are playing very good this year and to beat them was awesome. We weren’t lucky, we were good and we know what it was like to be in the bad times and now we are enjoying the good times.

“We tried to control the game in the second half, the first 10-minute period we dropped the ball but we controlled the game and we knew we could get to Wembley from then.”

Catalans will face Warrington Wolves in the 2018 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on August 25, 3pm kick-off.
