Steve Price: I pinch myself that I’m coaching at Wembley

Warrington coach Steve Price will fulfil a childhood dream when he leads his side out at Wembley on Saturday.

The Wolves face Catalans Dragons in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, 3pm kick-off.

Price revealed that he used to watch the Challenge Cup when he was growing up in Australia.

He said: “When I was a young bloke, I actually got up early in the morning with my old man, who loved his rugby league, to watch while my mum was still kipping in bed.

“We had great admiration and respect for the Challenge Cup and I sometimes have to pinch myself that I’m coaching at Wembley.

“I’ve only been once before to Wembley in 2014 for Arsenal v Man City in a pre-season friendly. I was with my wife over here doing some travelling so just to enjoy the atmosphere. It was buzzing and after talking to Lee Briers, Jon Clarke and Kyle Leuluai who have played there, they say it’s an unbelievable experience.

“We have a fantastic leadership group here and the players are driven for success. From November, our challenge was to be a top four Super League club and we are now in that position to challenge for two pieces of silverware.”

Price is enjoying a fine debut season at the club, with the Wolves sitting fourth in the Super League table as well as still competing for two major trophies.

On his time in Warrington so far, he said: “I’ve loved it here from day one.

“It’s a fantastic competition and a fantastic organisation with great people involved.

“Everyone’s been very welcoming and my family love living here. I love the town of Warrington and what they stand for; I am still getting my head around the traffic though!

“They are good genuine people and it was important from day one that I got involved with them and embraced it. This rugby league club means everything to the town. The cup is huge too.”
