Widnes co-captain Chris Houston insists the club are doing all they can to make the Million Pound Game.

The Vikings have lost all four of their games in The Qualifiers so far, having played London Broncos, Salford Red Devils, Toulouse Olympique and Leeds Rhinos.

Francis Cummins’ side lost 16-6 to the Rhinos on Sunday and with just three games left of the competition remaining, Houston says they have got to pick up a win and quick.

He told loverugbyleague.com: “We haven’t given up hope, I know a lot of people have written us off but we come in everyday to work and improve.

“We are trying to make that Million Pound Game, three weeks ago we wanted to get the monkey off the back but no matter when we get that win, once we do get it, we will have a bit of a roll.”

On their performance against Leeds, Houston added: “It was one those where you can come off the pitch and look each other in the eye and clap the fans and be happy with the performance even though we didn’t get the result.

“We need to win, we want to win and we got the next best thing, but it is a result proven business as we know but if we keep turning up then we won’t be far away.

“We probably had our intent questioned externally but also a bit internally as well, but I think today we turned up and that’s what we expect from each other and that’s what the town expects from us as well.”
