Updated permutations for The Qualifiers and Million Pound Game
Salford became the first team to secure their place in Super League for next season via The Qualifiers with a win over Toulouse last night, but there is still plenty to play for.
The Red Devils sit on 10 points and cannot finish lower than third, due to Leeds and Toronto facing each other.
That game is the live Sky Sports game on Friday night, before London host Halifax on Saturday and already relegated Widnes travel to Hull KR.
We’ve broken down just what has to happen for clubs to either get promoted, reach the Million Pound Game or miss out altogether.
Leeds
Automatic: A win or draw against Toronto guarantees their Super League status. A defeat by 31 points or less also means they are safe on points difference. If Hull KR fail to beat Widnes, Leeds are safe no matter what.
MPG: The only way they could feature in the MPG is if Toronto beat them by more than 31, and the total of their defeat and a Hull KR victory over Widnes is more than 75.
Toronto
Automatic: A win by more than 31 points against Leeds guarantees them promotion to Super League. A win by less than that will be enough to take them up if Hull KR fail to beat Widnes. If Hull KR do beat Widnes, Toronto will still be guaranteed a top three finish unless the Robins win by 12 points more than Toronto do against Leeds. A draw would be enough if Hull KR lose or draw. They could still finish top three with a defeat, but only if their defeat isn’t 12 points worse than a Hull KR defeat at Widnes; and as long as the size of London’s victory added on to the size of defeat for Toronto isn’t more than 27 (or if London draw or lose to Halifax).
MPG: If Toronto lose to Leeds, they will be in the MPG if Hull KR win or draw. They can also be in MPG if London were to win and bridge the 27 points difference currently between the Broncos and the Wolfpack. Toronto can still finish with an away game in the MPG.
Hull KR
Automatic: There are no guarantees for Hull KR with a win, as they are dependent on either Toronto losing or bridging a points difference gap currently of 12 with the Wolfpack and 75 with Leeds.
MPG: Hull KR will be in the MPG if they don’t better Toronto’s result. They could be away in the MPG if they lose and London Broncos win, with just a 15 points difference between them currently.
London
Automatic: The Broncos would need both Toronto and Hull KR to lose to earn automatic promotion, and they would then need to win and bridge a relatively small points difference.
MPG: A win, draw or defeat by less than 24 points guarantees London a place in the MPG.
Toulouse
Automatic: No chance.
MPG: They need Halifax to beat London by more than 24 points, otherwise it’s Championship next season for the French side.
