Chris Hill: I hope Leigh bounce back

Warrington captain Chris Hill said he feels sorry for his good friend Micky Higham and his old club Leigh for the current situation it finds itself in.

The Centurions nearly forfeited their place in the Championship Shield final last week after having only nine players in the build-up to the game.

Due to the situation, the Rugby Football League agreed special dispensation last Wednesday so both them and Featherstone Rovers could sign players on loan, just so the game could go ahead.

And Hill, who played 160 games for Leigh between 2005 and 2011, is sad to see the club in the sorry state it finds itself in.

He said: “My good mate Micky (Higham) is there, he puts his heart and soul into that club and many others do as well.

“It’s really sad. I hope they get the backers and bounce

“It is a club that needs to be in the heart of Leigh and the club makes Leigh tick as a town.

“It isn’t a big town and everyone rallies around it when they need to and I hope they do it again this time.”

The club is currently on the lookout or new owners, with Derek Beaumont stepping down from his role at the end of the season.
