Danny Richardson withdraws from England Knights squad
St Helens half-back Danny Richardson has been forced to withdraw from the England Knights squad because of injury.
The 22-year-old suffered a groin tear in last week’s Super League semi-final defeat to Warrington Wolves.
Richardson will miss England’s tour of Papua New Guinea this autumn, with the Knights facing the Kumuls in Port Moresby and Lae.
He said: “I’m gutted that I won’t get the chance to represent the Knights in PNG.
“It has been a crazy season for me with plenty of ups and downs but it is important I get myself right for pre-season.
“I want to continue to work hard and improve for next year.
“I’d like to thank the fans for their support; it means a great deal to me and the players here.”
Richardson has had an impressive breakthrough season, scoring six tries and kicking 147 goals in 34 games for Saints.
England have confirmed a replacement will made soon. Richardson is the latest England half-back to be ruled out of England’s autumn internationals, alongside Gareth Widdop, Luke Gale and fellow Knights ace Jake Trueman.
