Richard Whiting retires from rugby league

Toronto have confirmed that Richard Whiting has hung up his boots.

The 33-year-old was one of the Wolfpack’s longest serving players but he will now bring the curtain down on 16-year playing career.

Whiting joined the Canadian club from Leigh Centurions ahead of the 2016 campaign and helped the club achieve promotion to Super League, before joining Paul Rowley at the Wolfpack ahead of the 2017 season.

The back-rower or centre made over 330 appearances in his career for Featherstone Rovers, Hull FC, Leigh and Toronto. He also earned three caps for England between 2004 and 2006.

Whiting joins Toronto team-mate Cory Paterson, who has also announced his retirement from the game.

In a short statement released by Toronto, it read: “Both players end their careers flying the flag for the development of rugby league in North America.

“The club would like to thank both players for their contributions to the Toronto Wolfpack journey, as well as congratulating them on their exceptional careers and wish them the very best in their future endeavours.”
