Halifax beat off competition to sign Ben Kavanagh

Halifax have pulled off a major coup in signing forward Ben Kavanagh from Hull KR on a one-year deal.

The 30-year-old has penned a one-year contract with Fax, with the option of a further year.

Kavanagh, who has been capped 17 times by Scotland, will also work as a community coach for the Halifax RLFC Foundation, alongside fellow Fax players Jacob Fairbank and Dan Fleming.

On the move, Kavanagh said: “I’m a Halifax lad, and even whilst playing for Hull KR I used to come down and watch Halifax play so it’s something I’m really looking forward to.

“I think they’ve got a good squad with some talented young lads and so I’m looking forward to adding to that.”

Halifax coach Richard Marshall is delighted to have secured the services of Kavanagh, who had been linked with a number of Super League and Championship clubs for 2019.

Marshall said: “I’d like to welcome Ben, he’s going to bring a wealth of super league experience.

“He is an excellent professional who has played in the top flight for a number of years. We feel his statue within the team will bring on our young forwards like Sion Jones, Harry kidd and Elliot Morris.

“He is another player who wants to come to Halifax and I’m sure our supporters will see another local player playing with passion.

“With Ben’s role in working within our community alongside our other two Halifax lads in Jacob and Dan. We have three great role models for our junior supporters to engage and develop with.”
