Dale Ferguson appointed new Scotland captain
Dale Ferguson has been named the new Scotland captain, taking over from Danny Brough.
Ferguson has been capped 17 times for his country. The 30-year-old has played in two World Cups and a Four Nations, so he will bring a wealth of experience to the Scotland side.
The Huddersfield Giants back-rower will miss the European Championships this autumn though due to injury.
On being appointed Scotland skipper, Ferguson said: “It’ll be a huge honour to captain my country.
“I made my debut in 2010 against Wales and I’m looking forward to leading Scotland in the next World Cup cycle.
“We are looking to secure qualification this year through the European Championships, and I’m absolutely gutted to be missing this year’s campaign but I have every faith in the lads.”
Bravehearts’ boss Duffy said: “Fergie is a highly committed and talented player.
“Since his debut, he has consistently shown what it means to him and his family for him to pull on the Bravehearts’ shirt.
“He thoroughly deserves to be the Scotland captain.”
With Ferguson ruled out of the European Championships, Halifax’s new recruit Ben Kavanagh will take over as temporary captain. Kavanagh has earned 17 caps for Scotland.
