1895 Cup winning duo commit to Sheffield

Sheffield duo Joel Farrell and Ryan Millar have signed two-year deals with the 1895 Cup winners.

Jamaica international Farrell joined the Eagles from Batley ahead of the 2019 season and has gone on to score 12 tries in 30 appearances for the club.

Farrell commented: “I am really happy to have re-signed for the club, I’m enjoying my rugby again and being around the boys.

“Tubbs [Mark Aston, coach] and the coaching staff have been outstanding with me really so I’m just happy to be staying for another two years. It’s the best rugby I’ve played in a while and I’m enjoying myself.

“Tubbs understands how I play and the way I want to play so he gives me the freedom to do what I want to do.

“But when there’s stuff I need to improve, he works with me, and it’s different to the way others have so it makes sense to me when he explains it. He seems to be getting the best out of me really.”

Winger Millar burst onto the rugby league scene with Sheffield in 2015 and has been in remarkable form this year, scoring 20 tries in 29 games.

He said: “It’s fantastic to be staying. I really enjoy it here, it’s been a good couple of years.

“The club is heading in the right direction and they’ve really helped me out over the last few seasons and I’m pleased that can continue.

“I didn’t grow up playing rugby league so when I joined the club I was behind a few of the boys.

“But working with him [Aston] as well as Keith [Senior, assistant coach], who has a wealth of knowledge, has been a massive help while picking little things up as I go.”
