Barrett gets nod for Origin
Former Wigan stand-off Trent Barrett will play for New South Wales in next week’s State of Origin clash with Queensland.
Barrett, 31, hasn’t played Origin for four years, and replaces Terry Campese as the Blues look to avenge their 28-18 loss in game one.
They are trying to avoid a record fourth successive series loss and will also be waiting on the fitness of former St Helens centre Jamie Lyon.
Barrett returned to Australia for 2009 with Cronulla having spent two years at Wigan, scoring 24 tries in 58 appearances.
He has played seven times for New South Wales before, scoring three tries and a drop goal, and has also scored three tries in 13 appearances for Australia.
NSW: K Gidley (captain); Hayne, Jennings, Lyon, Williams; Barrett, Wallace; Kite, Farah, Weyman; Creagh, O’Donnell; Gallen. Interchange: Wing, Poore, Stewart, Watmough.
