Bastian praises rejuvenated Hardman
Featherstone coach John Bastian says full-back Ian Hardman looks rejuvenated, naming him vice-captain for the 2014 season.
Hardman, 28, has made 140 appearances in six years at the club, having previously played at St Helens, Widnes and Hull KR, and will support new captain Tim Spears.
Bastian said: “I’m really pleased that Ian has accepted to take on the role as Vice-Captain. It’s an important role assisting Tim and as part of the Leadership Group already established within the first grade squad I felt that Ian was the ideal choice.
“Ian has been training with enthusiasm since I joined the club and has developed athletically. He has been training and playing with zest and looks rejuvenated.
“He is a good professional and sets an excellent benchmark for the younger members of our squad. He has become more involved in our attacking plays, creating opportunities and he has improved his communication on the field of play.”
Hardman came through the ranks at St Helens, making 46 first team appearances for the club, and then moved on to Hull KR and Widnes, before settling at the Bigfellas Stadium.
He said: “I’m honoured that John has selected me to assist Tim as Captain. I’m looking forward to the extra responsibility that it entails and I’m sure that working as a group this squad can have a successful 2014 as we build for the future. It’s an exciting time to be part of the club and I’m really enjoying my time at Featherstone Rovers.”
