Sheffield Eagles have confirmed that prop Eddie Battye has signed a new one-year contract with the club.

The 23-year-old is a graduate of the youth system at Sheffield, having played for the city’s only current amateur club, Hillsborough Hawks.

A Grand Final winner in 2013, Battye has also played in France with the Villeneuve Leopards. He has scored two tries in 34 games for the Eagles.

“I’m delighted to sign for another year, there are a few new recruits coming in so it should be an exciting time,” said the player.

“Mark (Aston) has been good to me and is always striving for me to get better. He’s offered me a lot and I learn a lot from him.”

Eagles head coach, Mark Aston added: “We are highly delighted that Eddie has decided to stay with the Eagles for another year.

“Eddie is another example of a player who has come through the clubs performance structure.

“He has overcome the setback of his broken ankle in last year’s Grand Final and he is continuing to develop into a quality front rower.”
