Wigan full-back Bevan French has thanked the Warriors fans for their support as he continues his recovery from a serious hamstring injury.

French has been out since suffering a torn hamstring injury Wigan’s 17-16 Super League win over Salford in May. He then went over to Australia to be with his family during the rehabilitation period. At the same time, the Warriors confirmed he would be exercising the extra year on his deal for the 2022 season.

He is currently still in Australia due to personal reasons.

Since joining the Warriors, he has played in 35 games, and scored 26 tries. In 2020, he was nominated for the Man of Steel award, but lost out to Castleford hooker Paul McShane.

He previously played for NRL side Parramatta, where he played 46 games, and scored 35 tries for the Eels.

French cannot wait to get back playing

In a video the club posted on Twitter, French said: “I just wanted to send a quick video message to the supporters and everyone involved with the club and say thank you for your support, understanding and patience during this time.

“It’s definitely not ideal circumstances I am in at the moment. From the get go, you guys have been very supportive, and I can’t thank you enough for that.

“It feels like an eternity since I last played a game of rugby league. I really can’t wait to do that, wear that jersey with pride, and do it in front of a home crowd. Hopefully we can bring more success to such a rich club.

“I’m really looking forward to making memories in the near future with everyone that is involved with the club. I really miss playing in front of a home crowd. I cannot wait to get back over there.

“Hopefully, it won’t be too long.”
