Brian McClennan departs New Zealand Warriors
Brian McClennan has left the New Zealand Warriors by mutual consent.
McClennan led the Warriors to a Grand Final last season, but a late season slump has seen the Auckland-based side drop to 13th in the NRL ladder with no chance of reaching the play offs.
McClennan said he was disappointed results had not gone his side’s way.
He said: “It was exciting coming into this job and everyone has worked so hard to try to get the performances and results we all expected of ourselves,” he said.
“No one is more disappointed than me that things haven’t worked out. I gave it my best shot. I’ve put my heart and soul into this and everyone has been terrific with their efforts.
“I’ve always said I was driving the bus and I accept accountability. It stops with me. For whatever reason, we haven’t made the progress we all hoped for.”
The former Leeds Rhinos coach led the Exiles to a 16-12 win over England at Headingley last season, before being appointed head coach of the Warriors replacing Ivan Cleary.
