Broncos to battle Army and Yowies

London Broncos have confirmed their preseason fixtures will have a cosmopolitan feel to them, with games scheduled against the British Army and touring Australian team the Yowies.

The Broncos’ first home game takes place on Saturday, January 7, at Trailfinders, against Army Rugby League. Fans can get into the game for free.

There will be a double header on Saturday, 21 January, also at Trailfinders. A London Broncos select side will take on Oxford at 12pm, followed by a 3pm clash against returning Australian side, the Yowies.

The Broncos will also play London Skolars at New River on Saturday, January 28, with kick off being at 3pm.

“Our pre-season friendlies give the players the opportunity to gain vital match fitness and game speed. It also allows players to form combinations and gain a better understanding of each other,” said Broncos coach Andrew Henderson.

“We have a bigger squad this year – 31 in total, and 15 new faces. Four friendlies are booked in and I have been working hard to secure an away fixture up north which has proven difficult this time round.

“Hopefully we can get that fifth game sorted. If not, then every player will still get a fair amount of game time and opportunity, which will allow myself and the coaches to have a good look at them all before the season opener at Swinton.

“Our first ever game against the British Army should be very exciting, as is the return of the Yowies. Hosting Oxford will provide a decent hit out and the London derby is always a good game.

“Hopefully, our supporters turn out in force to cheer the boys on to a strong start to 2017.”
