Brough set for Scotland role again
Scotland coach Steve McCormack has confirmed that many of the successful Bravehearts World Cup squad will be pulling on dark blue again this autumn.
Scotland head into the European Championships next month, with games against France, Wales and Ireland to come, with a place in the 2016 Four Nations at stake.
While the NRL stars from the World Cup will not be playing, with Luke Douglas suspended, Peter Wallace injured and Kane Linnett set for an operation, many Super League players will be putting their hands up.
“So far 13 of the squad from the World Cup last year have confirmed they are available with another handful awaiting verdicts on operations,” said McCormack.
“We should end up with at least half a dozen Super League regulars in the squad and some exciting up and coming young talent.
“We’ve also got a couple of players back in the reckoning who missed the World Cup through injury.”
The Scotland Rugby League have also confirmed that Danny Brough will be available for selection, as long as he comes through the play-offs unscathed.
The SRL have also reaffirmed their commitment to working within a Great Britain structure for the foreseeable future, as they look to build on recent developments North of the Border.
“Scotland Rugby League works closely with the Rugby Football League, the governing body for the game throughout the UK,” said SRL chairman Keith Hogg, the former Harlequins RL chairman, noew resident in North Berwick.
“We are striving to grow as a sport in Scotland and as an organisation need and want the support of the RFL. We are also committed to becoming a strong member of the European Federation with our national teams competing in all available competitions. For example, our Under-19s will play Ireland and England this autumn.
“However we still see ourselves as a part of British Rugby League.”
