Burgess feared NRL career was over
South Sydney Rabbitohs star Sam Burgess was worried that he could have played his last NRL game this weekend, after sustaining a shoulder injury.
Thankfully for Burgess, scans on Tuesday revealed that the injury was not serious, despite the player’s concerns.
The 25-year-old is set to leave rugby league at the end of the current NRL season, and join Bath RUFC.
“I think I know my body pretty well, I have had two shoulder reconstructions on each side so I know when something is wrong and I felt last night that something wasn’t quite right,” Burgess told Channel Seven.
“I was a bit upset last night, obviously this year means a lot to me personally and a few of the boys as well.
“But from what we have seen so far it doesn’t look to be as serious as what was first thought. I don’t think it is going to finish my season, which is the positive thing.”
Burgess is keen to end his current spell with the Rabbitohs on a high, after becoming an iconic presence at the Sydney outfit.
“I have tried to go out with as much respect as I can to sort of show the fans that I have been committed,” he added.
“We have got a few guys leaving, myself included so fingers crossed this injury doesn’t hold me back for too long and I can get back out there.”
