Burgess: ‘I’d love to have another crack at Souths’
Wigan Warriors ace Joe Burgess says he would like to return to South Sydney Rabbitohs one day.
The 23-year-old joined Sydney Roosters ahead of the 2016 campaign after scoring 52 tries in 55 appearances for Wigan.
He only played four NRL games for the Roosters though before he was released and signed for the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the rest of the 2016 season.
Burgess found good form at the Rabbitohs but had agreed to come back to the Warriors from 2017 onwards.
In an interview with NRL’s senior reporter, Brad Walter, Burgess said he would like to play in the NRL again in the future.
“I hope to go back there one day and have a proper crack,” Burgess told NRL.com.
“I’d love to have another crack at Souths because I really enjoyed the club and everyone was pretty good to me. I just didn’t find my feet at the Roosters but when I went to Souths I found a bit of form.
“I was playing every week and I was starting to find some consistency so by the end of it I was really enjoying my time. It was a lot shorter than I expected and wanted it to be but I am excited to go back and play a few more games there.”
Burgess is focusing on his rugby with hometown club Wigan ahead of the 2018 campaign and will come up against the Rabbitohs at the ANZ Stadium on February 17 as part of the Warriors’ New South Wales tour.
