Burgess out for at least six weeks
Sam Burgess will be out of action for at least six weeks after the ankle injury that forced him off the pitch against Cronulla at the weekend.
Burgess’ MRI scan proved inconclusive and the South Sydney forward will now have to undergo exploratory surgery.
His spell on the sidelines will be lengthened if further surgery becomes necessary.
A club statement read: “Sam will miss at least six weeks of football following the arthroscopy and this time period will be revised once the total damage to his ankle has been determined”.
The Rabbitohs are also without front-row forwards Luke Stuart and Scott Geddes who have both been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
