Cameron Phelps extends his stay at the Vikings

Cameron Phelps has become the latest Widnes player to commit his future to the club, having signed a two-year contract extension until the end of the 2015 season.

Phelps, 28, rose through the junior ranks at Canterbury and made his senior debut in 2005, going on to make 39 first grade appearances for the Bulldogs, scoring 12 tries in the process.

A move to Wigan followed in 2008 and he remained there until the end of the 2010 season before moving to East Yorkshire to take up a one-year deal with Hull FC, where he spent the 2011 campaign.

The former Australia under-19’s international moved to the Vikings part-way through the club’s first season back in the top-flight in 2012, and he admits that lengthening his stay was an easy decision to reach.

He said, “Me and my family are very happy here.

“This club is growing and we’re building. They are the two things that are very evident and you can see them immediately. Last year, we were wooden-spooners and this year we’re progressing and if all goes according to plan, we could finish in a Top 8 berth.”

Unfortunately for Widnes they did not have Phelps to call on last night, as he missed the 38-28 defeat to Leeds Rhinos due to injury.
