Casualty Ward: Hull KR update, Salford blows & Featherstone sweat on trio
Keep up to date with the latest injury news, this week including Hull KR, Salford and Wigan.
Hull KR update
Tony Smith’s Hull KR side are expected to be boosted by the return of centre Sam Wood and half-back Mikey Lewis for their next game against Salford in a fortnight.
Dean Hadley, Matty Storton and Will Dagger suffered head knocks in their defeat to Catalans Dragons on Saturday. However, they will be available to play in their next game against Salford because their 11-day return-to-play protocol will be complete.
Featherstone sweat on trio
Featherstone will wait to see the extent of the injuries to prop Craig Kopczak (knee) and full-back Mark Kheirallah (hamstring). They picked up the knocks in the second half of their 78-0 win over Whitehaven on Sunday.
Hooker or half-back Matty Wildie has been out for a couple of weeks with a rib injury but has not given up on making the 1895 Cup final against his former club Leigh this Saturday.
Warrington duo close in on return
Warrington coach Daryl Powell says they could welcome back full-back Josh Thewlis and hooker Danny Walker for their upcoming games against Leeds and Wakefield. Both players didn’t feature in last week’s 12-10 defeat to St Helens.
Wolves forward Jason Clark suffered a concussion but will be fit to play Leeds on Friday, June 3.
Salford blows
Speaking after their win over Castleford on Friday, Salford coach Paul Rowley confirmed that forward pair King Vuniyayawa and Jack Wells have been ruled out for the rest of the season.
It comes as a huge blow to the Red Devils. Fijian powerhouse Vuniyayawa being one of Salford’s standout forwards in 2022.
O’Brien head knock
Castleford half-back Gareth O’Brien suffered a head knock in their defeat at his former club Salford on Friday. With the Tigers having a week off this week due to the Challenge Cup final, O’Brien will be free to return to action in their next game against Wigan on Saturday, June 4.
Bibby okay
Wigan centre Jake Bibby left the field in their defeat at Hull on Saturday with a groin injury. But the former Salford man should be okay for this weekend’s Challenge Cup final against Huddersfield, according to his coach Matt Peet.
Peet said: “Jake had a bit of tightness in the groin. We think he’ll be okay, it’s something he’s had before. Other than that, fortunately no new major worries.”
