Casualty Ward: St Helens provide update on forward pair & Hull KR suffer blow
Keep up to date with the latest injury news in Casualty Ward, this week including updates on St Helens and Hull KR.
Saints prop Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook will be sidelined for up to five weeks after suffering a fractured cheekbone. The 36-year-old missed the club’s 26-18 victory over Hull KR on Sunday at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Head coach Kristian Woolf confirmed the news following the match.
Woolf said: “He is going to be four or fix weeks at this stage. He assures me that he’s a quick healer, so hopefully it will be the shorter term.”
Meanwhile, back-rower Curtis Sironen also missed out due to a slight niggle. He is expected to return in a fortnight for their clash against Leeds.
Hull KR confirm injury blow
Luis Johnson is expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time following an injury sustained against the reigning champions.
Hull KR boss Tony Smith said: “It’s not good news. He’s torn his pectoral which is potentially a lengthy injury. I’m gutted for Luis because he’s not long back.”
Ireland international forward George King passed his HIA during the match.
Carlos Tuimavave injured in Hull’s defeat to Catalans
Hull could be without star centre Carlos Tuimavave for an extended period of time due to an injury sustained in the defeat against Catalans.
The Black and Whites fell to a 36-8 defeat in Perpignan on Saturday, their seventh defeat of the season.
Hodgson said: “Carlos had to come off with a potential Achilles, we don’t know yet.”
The Hull boss said the full extent of the injury would be revealed after a hospital assessment.
Full-back Jake Connor has been ruled out for an extended period of time due to a medial ligament injury.
Lee Radford thankful for break
Castleford boss Lee Radford says the international break will benefit his side following their victory over Toulouse.
The Tigers could only name an initial 20-man squad for the fixture in France, with several key players on the sidelines. England face Combined Nations All Stars this Saturday in a double-header at Halliwell Jones Stadium.
“This international break will be even better for us,” said Radford. “We had a lot of blokes out, we had 19 fit players today so give them a fortnight to get ready will be very welcome for us.”
