Catalan round off recruitment with Roosters winger
Catalan have signed Sydney Roosters winger Michael Oldfield on a two-year deal.
Oldfield, 23, becomes the Dragons’ third and final new signing for 2014, following the arrivals of Jeff Lima and Ben Pomeroy.
The former Manly back scored a try in his solitary NRL appearance last season, and secured a release from the final year of his deal at the Roosters, who have recently announced the re-signing of Italy international full-back Anthony Minichiello.
Catalan coach Laurent Frayssinous said: “The signing of Michael is a great news for the club. He is a young and fast player and his pace will be a great value in our backline next season. We lacked of pace in the past seasons and the addition of this player will allow us to fill this gap.”
Oldfield won the NRL title in 2011 with Manly and in 2013 with the Roosters, and played in the Sea Eagles’ World Club Challenge loss to Leeds in 2012.
He made his international debut last year for Tonga, in a test against Samoa, but missed out on selection for the World Cup.
