Catalans duo suffer long-term injury blows in defeat to Castleford

Catalans have confirmed that both Mike McMeeken and Tom Davies are set for lengthy spells out of action with the latter in danger of his season being over for good.

The pair were both injured in last weekend’s defeat at Castleford. They underwent scans upon arrival back in the south of France, with the outcomes not what Dragons fans will want to hear.

Second-rower McMeeken was forced off at half time against former club Cas. The 28-year-old, who has made 13 appearances so far this term, fractured his right thumb. He will require surgery to put the issue right, and is now expected to be out for up to eight weeks.

Winger Davies, 25, also took a blow to his right knee during the same game. He scored 15 tries as the French outfit reached the Grand Final last season. This time around, he has crossed six tries in 17 appearances.

Davies could well have played his last game of the campaign though, with the prognosis not looking good. Though he has yet to see a specialist to confirm the extent of the injury, an MRI has already diagnosed damage to both his meniscus and medial ligament.

Catalans aren’t the only club to have had players injured over the course of last weekend’s action.

Earlier today, Hull KR also announced that a pair from their pack are going to be sidelined after their defeat to Huddersfield on Sunday.

Veteran Ryan Hall will miss this weekend’s trip to Toulouse with a rib cartilage issue. He could also be out of action the following week for their Hull derby against city rivals Hull FC.

Robins teammate George King will also miss between two to four weeks with a hamstring tear.
