Challenge Cup: Wakefield win in thriller & Huddersfield pushed at Barrow
Wakefield produced another magical display at the Halliwell Jones Stadium to defeat Warrington 16-12 in the Challenge Cup.
Mason Lino impressed once again and was rewarded with the man of the match live on Premier Sports.
Warrington opened the scoring through returning winger Connor Wrench on 10 minutes for a 6-0 lead. Full-back Josh Thewlis supported a break two minutes later to give his side a 12-0 advantage.
Wakefield hit back on 27 minutes through Lewis Murphy, scoring his first professional try.
Kelepi Tanginoa was held back from a try-scoring opportunity in a controversial moment before half-time.
However, that only motivated Wakefield, who kept Warrington scoreless in the second half and crossing twice through Reece Lyne and Corey Hall to claim a 16-12 victory.
Huddersfield made to work in Cumbria
Ian Watson’s Huddersfield progressed to the next round following a hard-fought 30-16 victory over Barrow.
The Championship side went into the tie unbeaten in their 2022 campaign so far. However, the Super League side claimed the victory with a large crowd at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.
Huddersfield scored through Luke Yates, Ricky Leutele, Sebastine Ikahihifo, Jack Ashworth and Innes Senior.
Barrow’s Tee Ritson claimed the Our League man of the match award following his two-try performance. Captain Jarrad Stack also crossed for a try in the second half.
