Championship 1 Team of the Week
Premier Sports Try of the Week – David James (South Wales Scorpions)
Scorpions winger David James raced 60 metres to claim South Wales’ third try in their 28-16 win at Gateshead Thunder.
South Wales coach Dave Clark said: “He picked up a loose ball, outsprinted their winger and really showed his pace to get to the line.
“It was a game-changer, because we then scored another try two minutes later and that put us clear.”
Clark added: “We only had 16 fit players, and two loose-forwards playing in the halves after Courtney Davies went off, so it was a really pleasing win for us. There was a real spirit about how we played.”
Premier Sports Performance of the Week – Oldham
Oldham dominated this week’s Premier Sports Championship One Team of the Week, with five players earning selection from the Roughyeds’ impressive 30-12 win at Hemel.
Richard Lepori, Jon Ford, Dale Bloomfield, Lewis Palfrey and Danny Langtree were all included in the team of the week.
Oldham coach Scott Naylor said: “At Hemel we managed to score some points, which is what’s been missing from our game.
“Hemel are a good side and it’s not an easy place to go. They’ve got some big, big people playing in the middle of the park and they’ve got a lot going for them. It was really pleasing to get a decent win there.”
