Championship Round Six attendances: Widnes Vikings record highest crowd

Widnes Vikings recorded the highest attendance during the latest round of Championship action from their clash against Toulouse.

3,093 supporters attended the DCBL Stadium as John Kear’s side fell to an agonising 14-12 defeat at home, with Paul Marcon scoring the match winner in the dying minutes of the fixture. The Vikings had led 12-10 up until the 77th minute.

Bradford recorded the second highest crowd of the weekend, with 3,004 attending Odsal Stadium for their 32-18 win over Sheffield.

The Bulls boast an average home attendance of 3,899 after four home league fixtures so far in 2023.

Elsewhere in the Championship

Halifax recorded their biggest crowd of the year so far with 2,123 at The Shay on Sunday. Simon Grix’s side picked up a 34-10 victory over Keighley, their fourth win of the season. Previous attendances include 2,101, 1,950 and 1,703. It gives the side a healthy average of 1,969 so far in 2023.

1,090 watched on at Heywood Road as Championship leaders Featherstone maintained their 100% league record with a 34-6 victory over Swinton. Allan Coleman’s Lions sit 11th in the table with two wins from six.

978 attended Kingston Park as Newcastle Thunder fell to a 36-6 home defeat to London Broncos. Chris Thorman’s side are just one place above the foot of the table with one win this year.

York did not give an attendance for their Round Six home clash against Whitehaven, resulting in a 14-12 defeat.

Meanwhile, Batley have been approached by Love Rugby League for their attendance from the televised Monday night game. The fixture, broadcast live on ViaPlay Sports, saw a late venue change to Dewsbury’s Flair Stadium due to floodlight issues at Batley’s home ground.

Barrow remain the only Championship side without a win so far in 2023, having fallen to a 24-12 result against Craig Lingard’s side.
