Championship round-up: Toulouse romp to victory (again), Batley tamed by London & Widnes’ struggles continue
It’s time for the latest results from round six of the Championship…
League leaders Toulouse ran in 13 tries and kept their opponents scoreless for the second successive week as they swept aside Whitehaven 66-0.
Junior Vaivai, Jordan Flovie, Mathieu Jussaume and Anthony Marion all crossed twice for Sylvain Houles’ side.
Featherstone kept pace with the table-toppers after running in 12 tries and 68 unanswered points against Oldham on Monday night.
Dane Chisholm amassed a personal tally of 24 points after a try and 10 goals, while former Toronto Wolfpack duo Craig Hall and Jack Bussey both crossed twice in West Yorkshire as Rovers maintained their 100% record in the league.
London Broncos inflicted a first defeat since round one on high-flying Batley at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium.
Chris Hankinson, fresh from securing a 20-point haul last weekend, crossed twice for the Broncos in their 40-6 win. Josh Walters, Abbas Miski, Rhys Curran, Jacob Jones and Gideon Boafo also got on the scoresheet.
Mikey Lewis’ double helped York record a 35-14 victory away at struggling Widnes.
There were further scores for Sam Scott, Ben John-Bishop and Danny Washbrook, while Riley Dean, on loan from Warrington, added a late drop goal.
In the final game of the round, Swinton’s wait for a first win of the season continued as they were edged 20-18 by Dewsbury, despite a late rally at Heywood Road.
Trailing 20-6 after Paul Sykes’ 72nd minute penalty, the Lions clawed their way into the contest thanks to Billy Brickhill’s quickfire double but couldn’t find another score in the final moments.
