Wakefield coach Chris Chester has commended James Batchelor after the youngster grabbed a hat-trick against Dewsbury.

Trinity accounted for the Rams 30-16, with the 18-year old playing a starring role.

“This is the first full pre-season he had as a first-team player and he’s been working very, very hard on his game,” Chester said.

“He went on tour with the Great Britain academy and got a glowing report from that and he’s certainly a favourite of mine.

“He scored three tries today but should have had four.”

After securing their second victory in pre-season Chester was full of praise for the number of youngsters who took part.

There were 12 players from the under-19s who were involved for Trinity.

“I thought the effort from everybody involved today was very good but especially the young kids,” he said.

“It just shows what a good youth system we’ve got here.”

Next up is a match against Castleford and Chester explained there will be plenty of changes from the team which faced the Rams.

“We always pinpointed this game as an opportunity to give minutes to some young kids,” he said.

“Next week we will go with a strong squad against Castleford.”
