Clinton hit with hefty fine
Brisbane prop Joel Clinton has been stood down for Friday’s match with Canterbury and hit with a $50,000 fine after being found in breach of the club’s player code of conduct.
Clinton was sanctioned by the club’s Board of Directors yesterday, after he admitted inviting a female back to his room at the team hotel before the Broncos’ clash against West Tigers last month.
In a statement, Brisbane Managing Director Bruno Cullen, said Clinton was “remorseful” and was prepared to accept the punishment.
“When Joel presented himself to the Board and Broncos’ management earlier today, he confirmed his
earlier statement to the media that he had clearly breached the players’ code of conduct,” he said.
“He apologised unreservedly and expressed deep remorse for his actions. He made a commitment to
the club that he would abide by a number of undertakings going forward.”
“The Board determined that the appropriate sanction in all of the circumstances that were apparent to
the board was that Joel would be fined $50,000.”
He added: “Given all of the above, Joel was not considered for selection for this week’s game against the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.”
