Club of the Week: Featherstone
Yet again it is Featherstone who top the Championship table after the regular season, and yet again it is playmaker Liam Finn who has been key to their success.
Finn, 29, has managed 14 tries and 143 goals in his 29 appearances so far this season, and he recently caught up with Love Rugby League to discuss a fourth consecutive League Leader’s Shield for Rovers.
“It has been a bit tougher than previous years this season as we’ve had to bounce back from the loss of two coaches,” said Finn.
“We have shown great strength of character to all muck in and get the job done.
“The likes of Kainy (Andy Kain) have been key, but overall it has been a team effort, everyone has contributed, even through to some of the younger lads like Jack Bussey.”
While four Shields in four years is a superb achievement, Ireland international Finn is all too aware of the importance of play-off success.
“The whole of rugby league, and the make-up of the season, is all centred around the play-offs.
“Although it takes a lot of hard work to win the Shield, the main aim is the Grand Final, so we are focusing on these (play-off) games, not what we have already done.
“Obviously finishing first gives us confidence, but as we have seen in the past, whoever peaks at this time of the year will be the champions and the ones who are remembered by the history books.”
