Consistency key for Hull in 2022, says Josh Griffin
Hull centre Josh Griffin is hoping Hull can get their consistency right in 2022, as they hope to learn lessons from 2021.
The Black and Whites started the 2021 season in promising fashion, as they reached the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup, and were doing well in the Super League.
However, a run of nine defeats in their final 10 games saw the Black and Whites drop to eighth in the table, outside of the playoff places.
Griffin, who spent the majority of the second half of the season injured, has said the team have had a couple of tough conversations about making sure that does not happen again.
He said: “We’ve obviously tried to work on our togetherness and not sure what happened. It was almost like the players gave up there in the last year.
“We’ve had a lot of tough, tough meetings and honest meetings and try to build build together as a team. And you know, we’ve got some great players in there.
“Sometimes we can probably be a bit individual and probably maybe a weak underbelly sometimes. We’ve tried to work on that during the preseason.
“Hopefully, like I say, time will tell but hopefully, you know, you’ll see that throughout the season that we have built that more togetherness.”
Hull taking it “week-by-week”
Griffin also said the Black and Whites are being careful about not looking too far into the future with regards to their goals in 2022.
Hull have enjoyed success in the Challenge Cup recently, winning it back-to-back in 2016 and 2017. They have not won a major trophy, or had a major final since.
On that, Griffin said: “We’ve had a bit of success in the Challenge Cup over the last five to 10 years. It’s something we enjoyed as a club, so would be silly not to have a look at it and say it’s not not in our minds.
“But I’d say we’re just gonna take it week in week out. I think that’s what us as a club need to look at. I think we get caught up looking at the bigger picture and aim of too far. We need to just concentrate looking week in week out and hopefully, build some consistency.”
