Dan Coates returns to Newcastle after London spell
Newcastle have announced half-back Dan Coates has returned to the club for the rest of the 2022 season.
Coates had signed for London Broncos ahead of the 2022 season after a good season in League One with Coventry. He played three games for them but has now returned to the North East.
In 2021, he broke a record for the most points scored by a Coventry player in one season in League One.
He is a product of the Newcastle academy, and was playing in the reserves before making the move to the Midlands.
Speaking to Newcastle’s YouTube channel about how the move came about, Coates said: “It came about quite quickly to be fair.
“It didn’t really work out at London. I came down here, done two sessions, and Jordan (Robinson) said he was going to offer me a contract.
“I’m training really well to be fair, all the lads have been great. I’ve found it easy, got myself in there, and I’m getting on with the lads quite well.
On the prospect of going full-time, Coates added: “It’s a different feeling to what I have had before. You really get looked after here, I’m sure it will be really good.”
Josh Eaves on life in the North, room-mates and Newcastle Super League ambitions
Josh Eaves has discussed life in Newcastle, his ‘talented’ team-mates and Thunder’s Super League ambitions.
The 24-year-old made the switch to the Championship side during the off-season from St Helens.
Eaves came through the system at hometown club Saints, making his first team debut in 2019.
He joined Newcastle on a one-year deal, re-locating to the north and living with five team-mates and enjoying his time in the city.
“It is better than St Helens,” Eaves joked.
“There’s a lot more going on. We’re situated bang in city centre. We’ve got two apartments, six in one and six in another. I’m currently living with Gideon Boafo, Jack Johnson, Connor Bailey, Brad Gallagher and Pat Moran.”
