Danny McGuire to take on additional role with Hull KR
Hull KR assistant coach Danny McGuire will combine his first team duties with being the club’s reserve team head coach in 2022.
The 39-year-old takes the coaching reins of the reserves after the competition was cancelled due to Covid in 2020 and 2021.
The reserves will give fringe players a chance to impress with the aim of breaking into Tony Smith’s first team. It will also aid young players who are making the step up from academy.
The return of the club’s reserves in 2022 will see a combination of first team players, part-time reserve signings and players from dual-registration partners Dewsbury line up for Hull KR.

Danny McGuire eager to get going
McGuire said: “I’m excited. I suppose it’s my first challenge as a coach. It will be really good and I feel there were some missed opportunities for some players last year.
“It gives lads aged 19-20 the opportunity to play regular rugby league. I’ve always been a big backer of the academy. I love to see young, local players come through the system and get opportunities.”
“We’ve got a lot of players putting pressure on some of our senior players and they get a chance to express themselves regularly (with the reserves), it will be a good challenge for them.”
