Daryl Powell left surprised following Josh Charnley ban
Warrington Wolves head coach Daryl Powell has been left a little confused following the ban to star winger Josh Charnley.
Charnley, 30, received a two-match ban for a Grade C strike in their 24-18 defeat to Catalans last week.
The England international will miss Warrington’s upcoming fixtures against St Helens and Wakefield.
The decision left Powell surprised but the Wolves boss admitted the club didn’t think about fighting the charges.
Daryl Powell: ‘I was surprised’
“You’re not going to go and challenge that now. That’s what they want; they want to stop you doing that.
“But it’s disappointing for me. I was surprised. I don’t think there’s anything there if I’m honest, I think there is movement with his leg.
“We’re talking about getting rid of the head knocks and a bloke gets more for supposedly kicking somebody. It’s marginal to be honest.
“I don’t get some of it at the moment, but it is what it is.”

Opportunity open for Josh Thewlis
Forward Matt Davis will also miss the clash following a Grade B dangerous tackle charge. The pair have been replaced by Rob Butler and Jack Darbyshire in the squad.
However, Powell has said that youngster Josh Thewlis has earned the vacant position left by the banned Charnley.
“I think Josh Thewlis has deserved his opportunity. I think he’s always played well when he’s always been in the team previous to me coming to the club.
“He’s handled himself great over the initial part of the season where he hasn’t been getting too much game time.
“He played really well in reserves last week and he deserves an opportunity. I’m looking forward to seeing him play.”
Warrington travel to the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday for round five of the Super League season.
