Daryl Powell not downhearted after Castleford lose at Warrington

Drew Darbyshire

Castleford coach Daryl Powell said the best team won in their narrow defeat at Warrington.

The Tigers fell short to a 9-8 defeat by the Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday night.

Castleford half-backs Danny Richardson twice and Jake Trueman were both off target with drop goal attempts in a thrilling last seven minutes which could have given their side victory.

Powell said: “We just couldn’t get the drop goals and just didn’t have the composure which I don’t think we showed all night.

“It was a really determined, tough effort from us but we just lacked a bit of quality in our game and didn’t quite execute.

“Even though it was there for us at the end I thought they probably just shaded it.

“I just felt we were a bit off our game and they were a desperate team and you can see there was a fair bit of relief lifted at this place with the win.

“While I never like to lose I’m happy for Pricey because you don’t like to see people put under that intense scrutiny and pressure.”
