Daryl Powell questions officials in Catalans defeat
Warrington head coach Daryl Powell has questioned the officials following his side’s 40-8 defeat to Catalans in Perpignan.
Steve McNamara’s Dragons ran in six tries to jump to second in the Super League table. Winger Fouad Yaha scored his 88th try to become Catalans’ all-time leading try scorer.
Warrington, who scored through Connor Wrench, conceded 34 points in the second half. While Powell admits his side need to be better, he questioned some of the decisions by referee Liam Moore.
The Wolves have claimed just five wins in 12 Super League fixtures so far in 2022. They sit eighth in the league table, 10 points behind next opponents St Helens.
Daryl Powell reflects on defeat
“I’m not sure the scoreline reflects the game to be fair but we need to be a whole lot better,” said Powell.
“There were some big turning points in the game and the referees might need to take a hard look at themselves. There are some games where they are just calling it wrong.
“Having said that, Catalans have got some pretty big dudes out there on the pitch and we need to learn how to handle them better.
“It’s always physical and fast here and we are not handling things as well as we should do at the moment.
“There are some positives – some of our younger players like Connor Wrench were really good for us, it was a massive game for them – but collectively we can’t play like that in our next game against St Helens.”
Powell’s side host St Helens at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Thursday, May 19, live on Sky Sports.
