David Ferriol announces retirement
Catalan prop David Ferriol has announced that he will retire from rugby league at the end of the season.
Ferriol, 33, has made 126 Super League appearances for the Dragons since arriving at the club from Limoux in 2007.
He said: “It’s been a hard decision to make but it’s a new chapter in my life and I’m really looking forward to work in my vineyard. I’d like to thank everyone at the club and wish all the best to all the young players who are coming through.”
The Carcassonne-born front-rower made eight appearances for France during his career, but missed out on the 2008 World Cup.
Dragons CEO Christophe Jouffret said: “It’s a big hole for the club, for French Rugby League and for Super League as well. He was an outstanding player in and out of the field and a true icon in the club and the competition.”
Catalan’s play-off campaign starts with a trip to Wigan on Friday, but they are guaranteed a home play-off tie regardless of the outcome.
