Bradford winger David Foggin-Johnson has received a five-match ban following his red card against Leigh in the Championship.

Foggin-Johnson was referred to tribunal by the Match Review Panel for a Grade E high tackle offence committed during the recent Championship match against the Centurions.

He admitted the offence, but was unsuccessful in challenging the grading. Foggin-Johnson was also fined £250.

The Bradford man was sent from the field in the second half at the Leigh Sports Village following a high tackle on Aaron Smith. His side went on to lose the fixture 38-4.

He will miss this weekend’s Challenge Cup tie with London Broncos as well as a league tie against Batley. If successful, he could miss the next two rounds of the Cup and a trip to Workington in the Championship.

Punishments in rugby league

For the second successive week, it’s the disciplinary that’s dominating the headlines in Super League.

Hull skipper and half-back Luke Gale recently received a five-match ban following his red card against St Helens. The former Leeds man was sent from the field for a high boot on Jonny Lomax.

He could return against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Thursday, March 31.

Castleford coach Lee Radford has recently praised the RFL for their communication between the match officials department and the clubs.

The Rugby Football League have clamped down on head contact and illegal play more than ever in 2022.
