Donaldson welcomes Peacock’s return
Hull KR forward James Donaldson says Jamie Peacock coming out of retirement has given the whole team a boost in confidence.
“It has provided a confidence boost when we needed it. He has trained this week and it is clear he certainly still has the ability,” Donaldson told Love Rugby league.
“He is a great person to be around and off the field as well.
“His experience will also be massive for the team. You need that leadership off the field and a person who knows what it is like in all situations.
“Finishing on a treble win in the Grand Final with Leeds Rhinos and then coming out of retirement to play for Hull KR says a lot about the type of character he is.”
Donaldson also made it clear last week’s defeat to Leigh Centurions was hard to take and has given the team a wake-up call.
“It was definitely a poor performance from us,” he said.
“You have to say the conditions weren’t the best and it probably suited Leigh with a big pack but it was still very disappointing.
“The result has given the team a kick up the backside.”
The result leaves Huddersfield Giants in third place, which would automatically guarantee their Super League status and Donaldson believes they are certain to still be playing in the top flight next season.
“I am 100% confident Hull KR will be in Super League next year,” he said.
“It certainly hasn’t been easy due to the injuries we have had and it will be testing times these next weeks. Our confidence did get knocked against Leigh but the team will respond.”
Up next for Hull KR is a trip to London Broncos and Donaldson is determined to go there and rectify what happened last week.
“They will be confident after seeing us against Leigh and it is on a 4G pitch but we have different things in mind and we are desperate for the win.”
