Double retention for Doncaster
Doncaster have announced Joe Fella and Tom Halliday have both signed new deals with the club for the 2022 season.
Fella, who plays in the forwards, played one game for Doncaster in 2021. He came off the bench in their 28-26 win over promotion chasing Workington.
His dad also played for Doncaster. Tony Fella spent the 2001 season in south Yorkshire, making 17 appearances for the club.
Meanwhile, Halliday, has signed up for a fourth season at the Keepmoat Stadium.
He signed on an initial loan deal from Championship side Dewsbury, and has made a good impact. He has scored 18 tries in 23 games for the Dons.
Challenge Cup draw announced: Doncaster to face amateur opposition
In the second round of the Challenge Cup, Doncaster have been drawn at home to either NCL side Thornhill, or the RAF.
If the Dons are to face the NCL side, then it would be a repeat of the second round tie that took place in the 2020 season.
On that day, a late try from Watson Boas stopped Doncaster from suffering an exit at the hands of the Dewsbury-based side. The match finished 24-20.
The amateur outfit have made a return to the NCL Premier Division in 2022. They were relegated back in 2019, and started the 2020 season in Division One.
However, Featherstone Lions have since dropped down to Division One while Underbank Rangers have withdrawn from the NCL completely.
League One fixtures announced
After their campaign gets underway in the cup, Doncaster’s League One campaign will get underway at the end of March, when they welcome Midlands Hurricanes to the Keepmoat Stadium.
The Dons will be hoping to go one better in 2022, having lost the playoff final in 2021 against Workington. They are listed at 12/1 to finish top in 2022.
