England head into World Cup in style after nilling Fiji
England will head into the World Cup with confidence thanks to an impressive 50-0 victory over Fiji in their only warm-up match at Salford.
Shaun Wane gave handed nine players their first appearances in England shirts – Dom Young, Herbie Farnworth, Marc Sneyd, Andy Ackers, Victor Radley, Liam Marshall, Sam Powell, Harry Smith and Kai Pearce-Paul.
It was all England in the first half, with tries from Young, Ackers, Kallum Watkins, George Williams and Joe Batchelor seeing them 28-0 to the good at half-time.
Newcastle Knights winger Young scored just 14 minutes into his first game for England as they opened the scoring.
There was another try from a debutant just minutes later. Salford hooker Andy Ackers raced over from dummy half.
Young and Watkins were having strong games on the right edge, with the latter extending England’s lead in the 34th minute.
George Williams and Joe Batchelor scored tries in the final five minutes of the first half to give their side a 28-0 advantage at half-time.
Wane’s men comfortable at the break
The hosts started the second half just as they did the first. Luke Thompson stormed onto a lovely grubber kick from Marc Sneyd.
And Catalans Dragons forward Mike McMeeken got on the scoresheet thanks to a crisp pass from Micky McIlorum.
England prop Mike Cooper crashed over on the hour, with Sneyd converting to put England 46-0 ahead.
Winger Ryan Hall went over for England late on to wrap up a 50-0 win for Wane’s men. They start their World Cup campaign against Samoa at St James’ Park in Newcastle.
