Featherstone fined over crowd behaviour

Featherstone have been given a £3,000 fine, with an extra £5,000 suspended after crowd trouble during their game against Halifax.

The pair met in the Championship playoffs back in October, with Featherstone winning 42-10 at the Milennium Stadium.

The £3,000 fine has been activated. It was originally suspended after crowd trouble during games against Widnes and Bradford earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the extra £5,000 has been suspended until the end of the 2023 season.

An RFL statement read: “The club has been fined for failing to use Best Endeavours in terms of supporter behaviour, with the club to spend the sum of the fine on high-profile support of the RFL’s Tackle it and Enjoy the Game campaigns related to discrimination and supporter behaviour.

“A suspended fine of £3,000 imposed following a previous case of supporter misconduct in the 2021 season has been activated, and the club have been fined an additional £5,000 with that punishment suspended until the end of the 2023 season.”

Featherstone response

In response to the punishment, Featherstone added: “As we have previously communicated, we recognise that there is a small element of our fan base that spoil things for the majority.

“We will increase our investment in education, security and technology for the forthcoming season to ensure that we stamp out this behaviour once and for all.”

Dane Chisholm to appeal outcome of tribunal

Meanwhile, the club have thrown their support behind half-back Dane Chisholm. He is currently been subject to an RFL Operational Rules Tribunal after an accusation of discriminatory language.

The incident is alleged to have happened during Featherstone’s 48-10 championship win over Oldham back in August.

The club have said they are standing by the player and are appealing the decision. Chisholm himself said he strongly denies the allegation.
